The Stop Loss Lead will be responsible for all aspects of stop loss strategy, planning and execution with the goal of achieving and maintaining the company’s position as a premier provider of medical stop-loss insurance.  This leader will have oversight via matrixed teams of all functional elements (finance, legal, operations, underwriting, marketing) involved in stop loss and execution of new and existing stop-loss products and supporting services.

Education and Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.  MBA preferred

 

Experience

  • 5-7+ years working with Stop-Loss product or related self-funded experience
  • Experience leading and managing complex projects involving cross-functional teams
  • Prior Stop-Loss product development, underwriting, project management and/or operations experience in an insurance environment is a must.

Position Summary

Plans, organizes and directs Northern Illinois Health Plan in the provision of benefit administration services for self-insured group health plans. Provides oversight of daily operations, direction of NIHP staff, and interaction with employers, members, and brokers. Develops strategic plans and goals and develops products and services for growth. Develops and monitors capital, operational, and FTE budgets. Ensures the provision of superior customer service and monitors its success. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Development and implementation of strategic plan with annual goals
  • Plans, directs, and evaluates NIHP’s benefit administration services
  • Develops and maintains capital, operating and FTE budgets
  • Develops and maintains strong employer and broker relationships
  • Ensures compliance with state and federal regulations for self-insured plans including ERISA and the ACA
  • Develops marketing strategies and innovative services to promote growth and business
  • Contract and coordinate with vendors to complement NIHP services including subrogation services, bill negotiations (transplant, specialty care, dialysis), Medical Review Organizations, PPO Networks, stop loss carriers, and Prescription Benefit Managers
  • Ensures provision of excellent customer service measuring satisfactions and coordinating member appeals
  • Staffing and scheduling of personnel; Evaluates performance of direct reports and oversees performance management process; Responsible for the request to acquire additional staffing
  • Plans and coordinates NIHP Board of Directors meetings

Education/Experience:  Bachelor's Degree required with 5-8 years of experience of prior field-related and other job-related experience required with strong knowledge of the group health insurance industry, stop loss insurance, ERISA, self-insured group plans, product development, utilization review and case management, and managed care contracts
