Insurance is one of the most regulated industries out there. Believe it or not, not everyone is a fan of the self-insurance model. Laws and regulations protecting employers’ rights to self-insure are continually under attack by policymakers being lobbied by, you guessed it, organizations with financial interests in the fully-insured model, in addition to providers wanting higher reimbursement. And they have money…lots of it! In response, SIIA’s Government Relations team advocates on behalf of the self-insurance industry by educating and informing Federal and State policymakers and regulators. This session explains the nitty gritty politics of self-insurance and provides an update on current issues on Capitol Hill and throughout the country.
