SIIA Future Leaders

The Self-Insurance Institute of America, Inc. (SIIA) has recently launched the SIIA Future Leaders (SFL) initiative, designed to encourage talented younger professionals to become involved with the association and the self-insurance industry. To help guide the implementation of this initiative, the association has formed a SIIA Future Leaders Committee, which is comprised of younger managers/executives from leading member companies.

“This has been in the planning stage for some time and we are now pleased to move forward and make it happen” said SIIA President & CEO Mike Ferguson. “The need for such an initiative has become increasingly clear given the evolving demographics of our membership and now our association is properly focused to be successful in creating pathways for the next generation of industry leaders.”

The first phase of this initiative involved younger professional participation at its National Conference & Expo, which was held in 2018 in Austin, TX. The event will featured multiple educational sessions and networking opportunities geared specifically for this target audience (defined as under 40), along with a discounted registration fee.

After the successes in Austin, SIIA held a dedicated Future Leaders Forum in Tampa, FL featuring networking events, industry executive speakers, and featured a keynote presentation on Navigating Baby-Boomers and Gen-Xers…A Career Advancement Guide for Millennials.

The association continues to create pathways for the next generation of industry leaders with the SIIA Mentor Connection Forum, to be held August 19-20, in Dallas TX. This first-of-its-kind event has been designed to connect younger SIIA members (under age 40) with several of the most successful senior self-insurance/captive insurance industry executives in a “speed-mentoring” format. Attendees will have unique access to those who can provide practical career advancement advice, including tips on how they can be more valuable to their employers. The format will also encourage interaction among attendees, which is important in helping them develop the professional networks necessary for them to be successful in the self-insurance/captive insurance industry – networks the mentors have spent years developing for themselves.
