Dr. Melissa Pearce is the Stop Loss Medical Director at Symetra, holding a key leadership position. She actively monitors innovative trends in the medical and pharmaceutical industries and anticipates their effect on customers and their self-funded employee benefit plans. Dr. Pearce oversees the stop loss unit's clinical and cost-containment strategies, working closely with the stop loss leadership team. During the stop loss risk-assessment process, she provides consultative support to Distribution, Underwriting, and the Registered Nurses team. Her expertise as a physician, who worked in private practice for several years and then in the health insurance industry as the Utilization Management Medical Director, allows her to support Symetra's customers and partners and define the company's strategic priorities.
Dr. Pearce earned her medical degree from the University of Florida College of Medicine, Gainesville, FL, in 2004. She completed her postgraduate education in obstetrics and gynecology at the Medical University of South Carolina Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 2008. Dr. Pearce has been a member of Thegos Society since 2008, a Diplomat of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology since 2010, and a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology since 2011. She has received numerous awards and honors throughout her distinguished career.
